Dealing With Spam

It’s a fact that over the last few years spammers have gotten smarter. They’ve moved from email to blogs at a very rapid pace. In fact, I’ve gotten comment spam on every blog style site that I run which accepts user comments. The spam comes in the form of comments that point to random links that have nothing to do with the posts on my site.
Thankfully I’ve gotten smarter and so have the folks who make the blogging tools that I use. The best blogging tools now contain comment moderation features. These are features that allow you to create a queue for posted comments before they are actually seen on the blog. These tools also have features that will send an email each time a comment is submitted by a user.
My strong recommendation to new bloggers is that you find blog software that has these tools and use them. As a person maintaining a quality blog, you’ll find that there is a little bit of effort involved in keeping those very strange, irrelevant message off of your site before they get seen by anyone. Your visitors will appreciate it and you will be doing a good deed by discouraging the nefarious efforts of spammers everywhere.
