April Fools Day

I could have hoodwinked everyone with some phony announcement about Awakened Voice being acquired by Google or something like that. But then again, who would buy that one?
In any case, there are other social media jokers on the case. Matt Mullenweg of WordPress has announced a merger with TextPattern. The result is a Content Management System (CMS) called WordPattern. According to the new website, “Dean Allen, creator of Textpattern, and Matthew Mullenweg, founder of WordPress, have signed a historic agreement to merge the two failed projects into a new weblog application named WordPattern.”
If true this would be big news. But I’m not buying it. Notice the obvious tongue and cheek referent to “two failed projects”. Failed? Hardly. And there are other little cues around the new site that smell of an April Fools Day joke. How about their roadmap consultants HuhCorp?
Nice try guys
It will be interesting to see how much this gets talked about as a serious merger.

My first thought was, “Wow, this is big news.” But as I perused the Wordpattern site some of the little hints, along with the crazy hybrid screenshots, made me pause for a couple of minutes before I hit the blog. Then I remembered what day it was.
It’s real nice to see a good sense of humor in the world of social media.
