I notice that you use WP.org yourself, so that's a vote of confidence in one direction.

The only thing Blogger has over WP.com is the use of javascript. WP.com disallows it in widgets for obvious security reasons. The big problem here lies in the fact that so many Web apps that people want nowadays requires JS, and the WP.com programmers are notoriously slow to respond.

In short, if anyone wants anything that smells like "Web 2.0", then they've gotta host their own blog, or use blogger; WP.com can't help them on that front.

[...] About two years ago I wrote a post that compared the WordPress and Blogger hosted blog services. A lot has changed since then for both services. I’ve been looking at my stats regularly and see that the original post still gets quite a bit of traffic. So I’ve made some updates to bring the post in line with the features that each of these services currently offer. Here is a link to the original post: Hosted Blog Comparison: Wordpress vs. Blogger. [...]

Gary,

I don't know of a specific hosted blog platform that allows that. A relatively new service called Utterz, at http://www.utterz.com , allows registered users to reply to posts with audio, video and photos in addition to text.

Cheers,

I keep hearing that Wordpress is better, but I've been having a lot of trouble with it. When I added the SiteMeter to my blog, I found out that Wordpress won't support the tracking of the referring pages of visitors. To me, this is crucial information. Also, I tried to put a The Truth Laid Bare button on my side bar and it came out as a broken link. Blogger seems more user friendly.
