Social Baseball

The 2006 pro baseball season has kicked off here in the U.S. and it’s important to note that Major League Baseball (MLB) has a growing social media strategy.
First off they are distributing news for each team via RSS feeds. Secondly, they have a program called MLBlogs.
MLBlogs allows fans to create their own blog about a team. MLB is known to be very savvy about money and they are charging users to maintain their blogs at a rate of $4.95 a month or $49.95 per year. From the looks of it they are using a Movable Type platform to power the blogs.
What the user is paying for is not only the blog but also the right to use the official colors and logos of their team.
This approach represents a good example of how businesses can use social media to A) inform their customers and B) include fans in the promotion of the business.
How can your business use social media to inform and include your customers?
