Marketing Via YouTube

USA Today is running a story on how marketers are using the fast growing social video site YouTube as a direct channel to a worldwide audience.

According to the story, Nike, Dimension Films and others are uploading their own short video clips to the service. Evidently those clips are getting a lot views with the trailer for Scary Movie getting 250,000 views on the first day alone. The cost for Dimension Films to feature the movie trailer on YouTube? Zero dollars.

Earlier last month I recommended that businesses get involved in Social Media communities rather than trying to buy ads on these services. Imagine a cost of zero dollars to reach a huge audience as opposed to the cost of a web, print or even TV advertisement.

If you’re involved in a small business then the leverage provided by involvement communities such as Flickr, YouTube and MySpace is absolutely essential in order to compete with larger players in this new era of social technology.
