Bookmarks As A Resource

I’ve been wanting to sprinkle in a few posts this week on Boomarks and Tagging as very easy ways for businesses to get involved in Social Media. After having a look at a recent article on Social Media and the Enterprise by tech writer Jon Udell I decided to get the converation started.
In Jon’s article he calls Shared bookmarking, coupled with tagging “low-hanging fruit.”
In March I posted about commenting as a low risk strategy for businesses wanting to get more involved in Social Media technologies. I’ll make the same recommendation with respect to social bookmarking combined with tagging.
Services like Del.icio.us and Blinklist allow users to create online lists of bookmarks that they can categorize by adding tags. Each users list of bookmarks can then be syndicated via RSS at the user or tag level.
Shared bookmarks syndicated via RSS are a great way for businesses to share their knowledge with customers or other employees of their company. And because the bookmarks are online the creator of the list can always access them when needed.
Del.icio.us and Blinklist are also good destinations for market research as well. I currently subscribe to the Web 2.0 and Social Media tags on Blinklist. As a result I get a steady stream of links to sites that allow me to stay up to date on these areas.
I’ll be posting more tips on using tagged bookmarks in the near future. In the meantime I recommend that you try starting a list of bookmarks that matter to your business and then share that list with your customers or team members. As a source of information you will find that people will keep coming back to see what you have to offer.
