CNN To Launch Video Podcasts

Every day more old media outlets turn to Social Media technology to extend the reach of their content. PaidContent.org reports (via MediaWeek) that CNN will launch half a dozen video podcasts very soon.
Four of the podcasts will contain original contant and initially they won’t contain advertisements. That could, and probably will, change of course.
The fact that mainstream media companies continue to reach out to the world of Social Media means a couple of things. First, these companies recognize that Social Media technologies are highly viable and likely to return well on investment. Secondly, it means that independent producers of content (like Rocketboom and Adam Curry) will be dealing with a lot more competition for subscribers and ad dollars.
Whether this is a good thing or a bad thing depends on the content that CNN produces. As someone said recently, a bad show doesn’t get any better on a smaller screen.
