Blubrry Launches

A new Podcast community/directory launched recently and it looks pretty darn good. Blubrry is more community than Podcast directory. The site includes social network style features like a friends list, tags and commenting.
Podcasters do not merely list their show on Blubrry. They enter into a non-exclusive agreement that allows Blubrry to negotiate ad sales and also agree to plug Blubrry in their podcast shows.
According to the Blubrry site, “Become a member of a family that truly cares about your well being, and will help you build your audience, strengthen your brand and support you as you take your show to the next level. All we ask is that you help build Blubbry by mentioning us in your podcast and giving our team the opportunity help you find sponsors and underwriters for your show.”
This is a new model for Podcasting because Podcast producers have an opportunity to earn revenue while retaining the rights to distribute their Podcast shows via other outlets. Podcasters are also allowed to maintain a strong connection with their personal brand. This approach is a marked departure from the approach of PodShow.
PodShow requires that podcasters assume the PodShow brand while maintaining an exclusive right to distribute the content created by a Podcast producer.
I’m endorsing Blubrry as a good idea and a welcome addition to the Podcasting landscape. In fact, one of my shows is now available on Blubrry. I look forward to enjoying the community benefits and think that this type of model is one that works for Blubrry, Podcast Producers and Advertisers alike.

Your welcome. I like the home grown, “bottom up” approach that you folks are taking in developing the community.

I too am listed on Blubrry, and am very pleased with their approach. I also like your “bottom up approach” description. I just may use that one!
