Embed The Video

One thing I love about WordPress is the fact that there always seems to be a plugin available for every need I can think of.

I recently started a project that requires me to embed a link to the video in a post so that people would have the option of viewing videos (at a 640×480 resolution) or downloading the file.

All of the popular video hosting services (YouTube, Google Video, Blip TV) allow you to embed flash video into a post via a snippet of code, but they don’t do 640×480 and make it easy to link to a pop up window. For this project I have the desire to host the video on my own server anyway.

So I decided to search out some WordPress plugins to help me with my problem. I found a few over at WP-Plugins.net that looked promising. Only one really game me what I was looking for.

Embed The Video is a WordPress plugin that allows you to link to a video post using a thumbnail image that links to a pop up window. Just enter the link to your video, the video size and link to the thumbnail image in a space below the normal post entry field in WordPress.

Then just drop the tag ‘[etv]‘ into the post and save. The thumbnail appears with a download link below the image. When the thumbnail image is clicked the video plays in a pop up window. Very nice!

See an example of how this works here.
