Microsoft Max Reads RSS

Microsoft has recently added some RSS news reader features to their new product that currently has a code name of Max.
According to the official website, “Microsoft® Codename Max is your opportunity to try a new, exciting experience from Microsoft. Today Max lets you make beautiful photo slideshows to share with your family and friends. You can also use the newsreader to keep up with the latest news updates from around the world.”
What’s interesting to me about Max is the newsreader functionality. I haven’t tried Max yet, but it seems to me that this is Microsoft’s incremental move to bring their own RSS functionality to the desktop. It seems strange to bundle the RSS functions with a photo gallery program but maybe there’s a larger plan in the works. Could a newsreader within Outlook be far off?
Combine this development with the acquistion of Onfolio, Windows Live Spaces debut and the introduction of Windows Live Writer and you can see that Microsoft is slowly building itself into a power player in the Social Media space. They may not be missing the boat after all.
Keep track of Max updates via the official Max blog.
