Video Podcast Shootout

The folks who make Democracy Player have posted a Video Podcast Shootout comparing their offering with iTunes. Democracy Player is free, open-source software that assists you with management of video podcasts.

There are some very compelling reasons to choose Democracy Player over iTunes for your video aggregator of choice. Democracy was built from the ground up for video whereas iTunes was originally built as a store to sell digital music. So Democracy does a better job of integration some of the visual components as well as supporting multiple video formats. The iTunes store only supports QuickTime video.

If you’re looking for a one stop shop for all of your music, audiobook, audio and video podcast needs then I believe that iTunes is the clear choice for you. But if you are heavy into video podcasts and want a dedicated tool for subscribing to and managing those podcasts then I think you should try out Democracy Player.

Democracy does a way better job with video than iTunes both from the consumption standpoint, and also sharing, which is almost impossible in iTunes.
