WordPress Weekend

NY Wordpress MeetupI spend a lot of time implementing and tweaking WordPress so it was only fitting that I start attending the local WordPress meetup group in New York City.

They had a gathering on Saturday so I dropped in to meet some local WordPressers. Little did I know that Barry from Automattic would be in from San Francisco. And Owen came up from Philly to hang with the group. So there was definitely some top flight WP knowledge to be gained at the meetup.

Unfortunately I had to depart early due to a family commitment. I’m planning on making the next one though.

Now the news is out that WordPress MU has officially released version 1.0. MU is a multi user version of WordPress that allows individual users to have their own blogs with their own templates.

According to the official announcement, “MU has been in heavy development for about a year now, and we’ve finally polished it up to a place where we feel like it’s ready for public consumption. Since setup is a bit more complex than the 5-minute install of regular WordPress, MU is best suited for a more server-savvy audience.”

I have indeed heard that implementing MU is quite complex. In fact there was a person at the meetup who had tried to implement WordPress MU but then abandoned the effort in favor of customizing a standard version of WordPress.
