Intel Gets Social

Suite TwoIntel is offering a suite of social media apps they are calling Suite Two. They are bundling a number of tools together including Movable Type, NewsGator and Socialtext.

According to the official website, “SuiteTwo is a rich set of interconnected services that combine to improve productivity and enable high-engagement marketing. SuiteTwo includes the most trusted platforms for blogs, wikis, RSS feed reading, and RSS feed management, all under a single management interface.”

This reads like a quick start package for large companies that want to distribute, communicate and collaborate via the social web. There’s one problem I see here though. How will all these services be integrated into a single platform? They are all good tools, but things could get sticky if an organization is trying to implement and get educated on half a dozen services. Businesses need to consider that each of these tools will also require their own strategy for implementation and utilization.

So while I think that this offering is a step in the right direction in assisting larger companies with social media. I also think that firms could end up frustrated if they try to create strategies, implement, learn and ultimately achieve their goals using a number of systems that are not yet fully integrated.

My advice to organizations is not to start with the tools only to figure out how you’ll use them later. Develop social media strategies. Then choose the individual tools that will help you to achieve the goals for those strategies.

Bingo! Couldn’t agree more with this line:

“Develop social media strategies. Then choose the individual tools that will help you to achieve the goals for those strategies.”

This is where so many businesses go wrong, not just with social media but with business overall.

Thanks. It’s nice to hear that my thoughts on this make sense to other folks in the community.
