I’m A Placeblogger

Yesterday I listed my New York Minute Show podcast and blog over at Placeblogger.

Placeblogger is a new directory for blogs and podcasts that focus on places. The concept is a very simple one. I’m surprised no one has done it before. The Placeblogger site allows you to find or add blogs about places by filling in a form. The process is simple and no sign in is required.

Placeblogger is a Bryght powered site. Bryght is the leading provider of hosted Drupal sites. That means Placeblogger is built on the Drupal platform.

The site proprietors appear to be using only a few of the many features that can be leveraged by using Drupal as the backbone for their site. Hopefully they’ll dig into Drupal’s features to leverage the login system, profiles, favorites ratings, etc. Adding these features would make the site more sticky. Right now you can only see a couple of posts from my blog. There’s no way for me to go back and edit my listing. It should be pretty simple for the folks behind Placeblogger to enable features that allow users to have profiles and edit the content they submit.

During my surf through the site today I also notice that they have not yet implemented any kind of spam features related to the comment system on the site. I recommend they do so yesterday. The spammers move quick when they find an unprotected site and the results can be ugly.

I think that Placeblogger is a good idea and it looks like the project is off to a good start. The folks behind the site should invest some time in increasing the feature list as mentioned above, especially in the area of spam protection.

    Hi, Robert:

Thanks for the input! Yes, I’d like to move the site to an edit-your-own model, too, and it’s something I’m discussing with the guys at Bryght. Oh, and the site does actually filter comments (and other submissions) through Akismet.

It’ll be fun work doing the building.

I forgot that Akismet was available for Drupal. I actually wrote about that a little while back. You’re set then. It has done a great job of protecting my sites.

Thanks for taking the initiative. I look forward to future features.

    Rob
