Fixing Up A Blog

BlueI spent some time today doing a bit of work under the hood over at the Blubrry blog. I always learn something new every time I go under the hood on WordPress.

The theme needed an overhaul and I also wanted to make better use of Alex King’s Share This plugin. I followed the instructions on his site to customize the location of the link.

Made a lot of CSS formatting changes thanks to the Firefox Web Developer Toolbar. The tools for exposing CSS really make big changes possible for a non-graphics person like me. The tool allows you to focus on the CSS for any area of a web page. Being able to see what code affects parts of the page visually makes changing the CSS less of a mystery.

The best piece of advice I can give for going under the hood of your WordPress site is the make a copy of the theme you are working on. This way if you mess up the code in a page or mess up the stylesheet you can always go back to original.
