iTunes Goes Social…Finally!

I saw that Apple had finally gone social with their iTunes music store and just had to try it out. You can now share data from your account via RSS feeds and widgets (like the one below) that let you share purchases, reviews and favorite artists.
The new feature is called My iTunes. What I find interesting about the feature is that although you enable the feature in the iTunes program you get the embed code from a web page that opens in your browser. Does this mean that Apple will move more features, like access to the music store, into the browser.
I think that this possibility, combined with the move to DRM-free content, would make a huge impact and solidify Apple’s lead as a distributor of portable digital content.
I have no doubt that other efforts in this space, including open source projects like Songbird and Miro are putting pressure on Apple to make these moves.
