Amazon MP3 Store Works Well

Amazon MP3 StoreI’ve tried out the new Amazon MP3 Store and so far it has worked very well even in Firefox. The prices are better than iTunes as is the quality of the downloaded files. The Amazon MP3 Downloader makes the process of buying music and keeping track of downloads very simple. Newly purchased tracks are automatically added to your iTunes library.

The biggest downside is the fact that there is still a limited selection of music compared with what you will find on iTunes. I’ve also noticed that about 50% of the downloads can’t transfer to iTunes automatically. I was able to make sure all got loaded by using the manual process for adding files to my iTunes library. Hopefully the folks at Amazon will work out the kinks.

All in all its a good shot by Amazon. They’ve gotten the interface right. Now they just need to get on the labels to start making deals to distribute more DRM-free music.

I got a chance to use the new Amazon MP3 service a couple weeks ago and I would agree, the Amazon service is better than iTunes. The systray application is great. It reminds me of the system tray application that Kazaa used for file sharing. It’s simple, hardly takes up system resources, and the store side (Amazon.com) can continually evolve without having to upgrade software on my computer.
