Who Loves Ya Baby?

I recently signed up for an invite to the new NBC/Fox joint venture known as Hulu. Initially thought to be a YouTube competitor, Hulu is more of an online repository for content owned by these networks and their various affiliates.
I got my invite today and have been checking it out. There’s a ton of content to view with a good mix of old and new shows. The older shows are the ones that are most intriguing to me. Like Kojak (embedded below) for instance. There are other classics like Battlestar Galactica, Remington Steele and Lost In Space.
There is no downloading of content. Everything must be watched on the computer in a proprietary flash player. That’s the biggest downside at this point. I will rarely sit in front of my computer to watch a video that’s any more than a few minutes long. There are ten second ads at several points during each episode. Not as bad as television for sure.
This Hulu thing is interesting and looks like a good first step for major networks moving their content on to the web.

I agree that Hulu shows promise. The old-media-companies-don’t-get-it crowd misses the point that content is still king. I’ll gladly sacrifice some features if means getting to watch the like of Kojak over yet another lonelygirl rip off.
