From Podsafe To Signed

JayMayAbout two and a half years ago I featured an artist called JayMay on my Alley Cuts music podcast. That podcast is on hiatus but the shows are still available and they also run from time to time on KYOU Radio.

I happened upon a news item yesterday that indicated JayMay has since taken her career to the next level. I did some checking and according to this BBC Music Profile, “In 2007 Jaymay moved to London, after signing with Heavenly Records, which is distributed by the major EMI label.” Nice job JayMay.

I’m one of those people who doesn’t believe that getting signed to a major label is any guarantee of success. In fact, most artists signed to major labels will end up in debt. That stated, it can’t hurt to take the shot and get access to the significant resources available from major music labels.

So did my podcast make a difference? Probably not. But podcasting, and exposure on the web in general, is a great way for musicians to get worldwide exposure that can help them gain the attention they need in order to sell records, tour and maybe even get signed by a label. That’s one reason I’m in the process of re-working/resurrecting my Music Buggy community.

You can check out JayMay on Alley Cuts #25 and see if her music is your cup of tea.
