Gmail Upgrades Linking Tools

I noticed today that Gmail has an updated the functionality that allows you to link to other web pages and email addresses when composing an email in HTML mode. Previously when you clicked the link icon in the menu bar you would get a simple pop up box asking you for the link address. Now when you click the link icon you see a box like the one below.

Notice that you can now test the link to a web page as well as choose to enter an email address. You could link to an email before but had to specifically type in the mailto: syntax in order to make that work.
The second feature added is a tooltip for each link as displayed below. This addition makes it a little easier to change or delete the link.

While these updates to the Gmail feature set don’t qualify as major innovations, it’s nice to see that Google continues to roll in small, practical updates to the product features.

They must phase the feature into blocks of accounts then. I’ve used Gmail daily since before then and this is the first time those functions have appeared for me.
