Comparing Blubrry And LibSyn Podcast Stats

Ever since LibSyn released their updated statistics I’ve been wanting to compare those numbers with the statistics that I’m getting via Blubrry. I took a few minutes today and grab a couple of screen captures comparing the download numbers for an episode of my Amazin Moments podcast. Click the images below to see a higher res view.
The numbers are very close. Blubrry shows 1438 total downloads. Libsyn shows 1382. The difference is 56 downloads which is somewhere in the 3% range. This is a bit surprising since I’ve seen some grousing about people’s numbers being higher on the LibSyn stats. Then again, this is far from a scientific comparison. If I get some time over the weekend I may take a closer look at some newer episodes and a show on another podcast that has a much higher volume of downloads. Here are some other observations.
- Libsyn has that nice all time graph that gives me a visual representation of the download activity. Blubrry lacks this view.
- Libsyn has a csv export option. Blubrry has a pdf export option.
- Blubrry has pie charts that show data on downloads by platform (windows, mac, etc.) and country. Libsyn is missing these metrics in their stats view.
- Both services show client (iTunes, Juice, Zune, etc.) downloads.
Garner from this info what you will. The numbers are very close. The features are similar. The presence of a csv download for LibSyn allows me to back up my stats, and possibly maintain a local database. The presence of the geo-targeting in Blubrry stats gives me the ability to shape the content to fit my audience, or at least give a shout out to China.

Thanks for the comparison Rob, we are working on the plus package for our stats service and have on the list a number of things to add. So far as the numbers go keep me advised on how they match up. We have our own data sets but in the end I bet you end up seeing Libsyn track a little heavier on downloads over time.
This is due to their rulesets on what they allow on duplicate IP’s
The export feature will be in the plus as well as a number of new charts and more details. Which will really raise the bar.
