Still Here

I just wanted to write a post to tell everyone that I’m still here and following the world of social media. I have been quiet for a few weeks while handling some important things.

I’ve been in the midst of organizing the Blubrry Jam To Fight Cystic Fibrosis for RawVoice. We conducted a live music show last week that took many hours to plan but was great fun. As part of that process I also struck up good conversations with folks from Amie Street and Blip.tv.

It’s baseball season again so I’ve be ramping up my New York Mets podcast and social network.

And I’ve recently started offering tutoring services around the WordPress and Drupal content management systems. These sessions, conducted via GoToMeeting, allow people a cost effective way to build sites that they will know how to maintain in the future. So if you’re an individual or small business looking to build a website on your own please feel free to contact me.

I’ve also been talking to people about various projects and lining things up. Looks like it’s going to be a busy summer. Thankfully I plan to have more time to dedicate to all these efforts after May 1st.

Announcement Day

Today must be an announcement day. Shel and Neville took the wraps off of their Crayon social media consultancy. Congrats gents!

I’ve got a bit of news as well. I’m taking over the marketing duties and working with the folks at Raw Voice. I’ll tell the story on how this came about very soon. Let me just say that Todd Cochrane and the team at Raw Voice are nice people, hard workers and very talented in the area of social media.

I look forward to helping them grow Raw Voice and their exciting sites with Blubrry and PodcasterNews. Both sites are powered by the custom built Raw Voice Generator. I’ve just got under the hood of the RVG and it is some tool for creating media networks. Don’t worry though, I’ll reserve my gushing on Raw Voice products and services for the blog over there very soon.

I’ll still be covering the broader world of social media right here. I now return you to regular programming.

New York Networking Event

Griot’s Roll Film Production hosts occasional networking events in New York City. Social media is the main topic of discussion for their next event. I will be talk for about thirty minutes on how businesses can utilize the social web to enhance connections with their customers and spread the word to potential new customers.

Sign Of The Times

This happens so infrequently that I had to post something on this here. Christopher Elliott has written an article on the power of travel blogs for the New York Times.

In the article Christopher references one of my satellite blogs, Red Room Chronicles and is even brave enough to include one of my quotes about Marriott’s acknowledgement of my blog.

After racking up lots of points after many nights stayed in Marriott Hotels across North America I decided to launch the blog in the summer of 2005. I don’t post very often. But when I do I try to provide an insight into my experiences at Marriott hotels.

For the record, I’m writing this post from a Residence Inn by Marriott hotel in the Houston, TX area.

Get Smart

I’m happy to announce an exciting new service from Awakened Voice that’s designed to help everyone get smarter on social media.

I’m calling this service the Social Media Learning Center. The center includes a collection of tours and tutorials (which I’m collectively dubbing ‘lessons’) designed to help you get smarter on social media.

Each lesson is encoded in QuickTime format at a resolution of 640×480. Visitors to this site may stream the lessons in a window by clicking on the thumbnail in each post, they can download directly by clicking the ‘download’ links. Visitors who desire automatic updates on new content can subscribe using any RSS Reader, Podcast Client or iTunes.

Google Video Uploader

The official Google Blog has announced their new web based video upload tool.

Previously, video publishers on Google had to download the Video Upload Program. I use this program and have never has a problem with it. But some folks publishing from a corporate environment might be limited on what types of software they can install on their machine.

A Billion Voices Podcast

Very soon I will be launching an Awakened Voice podcast called A Billion Voices. This will be an audio podcast focused on the people and tools that are powering social media today.
